As an affiliate marketer I receive news from a whole slew of marketers to whose newsletters I have opted into over the last few years. Most of these messages are simply thinly-rewritten sales copy that is intended to get me to buy the latest "must have" affiliate marketing product. Very likely you see many of the same messages daily that I do.

The only reason that I can think of for not yet having opted out of these lists is that I am secretly hoping someone will present something to the internet marketing community that the rest of us, jaded as we are from all the hypey claims that come at us every day, simply cannot ignore.

As you might have guessed already, I am now about to tell you about one such opportunity for affiliate marketers that I have absolutely no reservations recommending. I am not about to describe to you some cheesy product that secretly makes me feel sleazy for promoting it. In fact, I am fairly sure that once you know as much about this opportunity as I do, you will have no reservations about recommending it to others either.

Since, I think, about 2005 I have been signed up to a newsletter run by super affiliate Jeremy Palmer, about whom I'll tell you a little more in the next section. Jeremy runs QuitYourDayJob.com, where you can find his free ebook on the principles of affiliate marketing, called High Performance Affiliate Marketing. If you have not read the book, I recommend that you make it part of your library.

I have always enjoyed receiving Jeremy's newsletters because he rarely uses them to attempt to sell me the opportunity of the day. So when I received an email in early 2008 from the Quit Your Day Job newsletter announcing something called the Black Ink Project that Jeremy would be launching, I immediately wanted to know more.

You can see what Jeremy was thinking by taking a couple of minutes to view the introductory video that he released at that time (you'll find it lower in this page). Jeremy had decided that he was tired of just doing affiliate marketing, and wanted to try something more fulfilling for a while. He announced that he would provide affiliate training for the first 1000 people who signed up for his course. The Black Ink Project would be his attempt to find out whether it was possible to teach a large group how to set up profitable affiliate campaigns.

The course would cover all the things that he knew to be necessary to make a profit at the end of the day. I'll discuss what those things are later, in my full Black Ink Project review.

Now, the thing you'll discover about Jeremy Palmer (and this is very apparent when you view the video lower in the page) is that he is not into hyping the business of affiliate marketing. Despite the fact that he has been very successful with it, he knows that it's no walk the park. If you are going to succeed it will be because you are prepared to put in the work required to set up your affiliate business the right way.

In other words, if you are serious about succeeding at affiliate marketing, then you are the kind of person Jeremy is confident he can teach. His confidence at the beginning of 2008 was founded on the results he had achieved in 2005 performing one-on-one training with five clients who had expressed an interest in learning how to become highly successful affiliate marketers.

Three of those students went on to earn more than $10,000/month, and one did phenomenally well (see his story in the video lower in this page). So Jeremy knew that it was certainly possible to teach others how to do what he was doing.

But was it possible to train a group of 1000? The Black Ink Project was his attempt to find out.

Jeremy decided that the way to tackle the project was to run webinars using WebEx to manage the events. People could dial in for the live sessions, and ask questions at the end of the session. Or if they could not make a live session, download it later. These sessions, which ran for about an hour, allowed Jeremy to cover a lot a material, ranging from niche selection, how to set up the financial side of your affiliate business, how to develop a business plan, how to figure out who the audience is that you intend to sell to, then onto the architecting of a bullet-proof affiliate web site, design considerations, landing pages, and pay per click marketing.

The end result? An amazingly interesting set of videos.

However, the quality of the phone-line audio did leave something to be desired. This got much better as the sessions progressed, but it could have been so much easier to listen to had the sessions been recorded locally and made available for download later. The other thing that became apparent by the time the course was completed was that students had come away wondering about what it was that Jeremy literally did for a real compaign to be able to put into effect the things he had talked about more generally during the course.

When he suggested that course participants "put together a template framework to help guide your web designer..." what did that actually entail? What tools and skills were required to get the job done?

It was this realization that prompted Jeremy to rethink his approach to running the course, and he quickly decided to have another stab at it. But this time he would spend little time on the peripheries of the business, and just jump in and set up a campaign, letting people watch as he went about the tasks required to build an affiliate web site and set up pay per click campaigns to bring in traffic.

And this time he would record the sessions beforehand. This would have dual advantages: he could edit sessions to show only what he needed to, and the video/audio quality would be vastly improved over the original sessions. This second take, culminating in about 15 video sessions, came to be known as Black Ink Project 2.0

I have to confess that I have been aware of Jeremy Palmer, and his status as a super affiliate, for so long now that I had largely forgotten his exact qualifications for that title. The fact is that he now routinely brings in more than a million dollars in affiliate income every year, mostly due to his proficiency in pay per click marketing.

Obviously this wasn't always the case, and Jeremy likes to tell the story of how he discovered affiliate marketing in 2003 while making around $36,000 per year working as a web developer for a Financial Services company that was running its own affiliate marketing program. During the course of his day job he noticed that some affiliates were making an impressive amount of money simply by referring others to the web site of his employer.

Shortly thereafter he was devoting himself after hours to his own affiliate marketing efforts, and within six months he was making enough in affiliate commissions to quit his job and go full time with it. On is Quit Your Day Job site he says "In my first year as an affiliate I was able to earn a six figure income from my websites. During my second year as an affiliate I made over a million dollars!"

Commission Junction honored him in 2005 with a Horizon Award for Innovation and created a CJ Profile on Jeremy Palmer. Clearly they are impressed with his abilities. I could rattle off some other distinctions Jeremy has acquired, but none of this would matter a jot to you if he was incapable of translating his success into a reproducible formula that others can understand and implement with a little dedication. Of course, this is what Black Ink Project 2.0 is all about.

I have no reservations in awarding the Black Ink Project 2.0 a 5-star rating. This is the best course on affiliate marketing that I have come in contact with. There is no doubt in my mind either, that much of the quality of the course material stems from the fact that the course creator has had direct experience with every topic on which he is providing instruction.

Anyone taking the course who is new to affiliate marketing will find a wealth of information offered, and some have even expressed feeling like that kid who has been handed the keys to the candy shop.

This is not to say that Jeremy always tells you just the things you want to hear. He has been tremendously successful in his marketing endeavors, but he is quick to point out his failures as well, and he makes no bones about the fact that the only way to succeed in affiliate marketing is to work hard at it, and to adapt to changing circumstances.

In fact, it was a strategy devised in response to a demand from the Google AdWords team that Jeremy STOP creating campaigns which landed visitors on BRIDGE pages that now forms the basis of Black Ink Project 2.0

The strategy that Jeremy devised to keep Google happy involves the construction of niche affiliate review sites that offer reviews, articles, and comparisons of multiple products. How this strategy is implemented is covered in the 15 video tutorial sessions provided by the Black Ink Project 2.0

Not only was I impressed by the review site model that Jeremy adopted for the course, I was inspired to take the general philosophy and turn it into a software application that helps affiliates who lack the design skills required to go ahead and immediately build niche review sites using the tools with which Jeremy is familiar (such as Dreamweaver and Fireworks). But, as I mentioned earlier in this page, Black Ink Project 2.0 is all about the specifics of implementing a real campaign. You get to watch as Jeremy Palmer goes about planning, and then building, a real affiliate web site that is designed from the ground up to make money.

Because these sessions are pre-recorded before being made available for download, they are much improved in terms of audio and video quality. Although I have to confess that many times after downloading a session and playing it I would discover that the file was incomplete and would stop perhaps two-thirds of the way through. I believe this was due to a hosting issue that was probably resolved by moving the content of the course to Amazon.com's hosting servers.

Anyway, here's a closer look at what Jeremy planned to promote on the web site that he would build...

	The Black Ink Project 2.0 Benefitee - Webex The goal of the course was to launch a web site which promoted the very same company that facilitated the webinar video sessions of the original implementation of the Black Ink Project. The name of that company is Webex. In particular, Webex's MeetMeNow service allows clients to use Webex to host online meetings right from your own PC, which is exactly what Jeremy was doing in Black Ink Project 1.0 Course participants are encouraged to build a similar site to promote any merchant of their choice, including Webex if they wished to go head-to-head with Jeremy himself. Ultimately the site that Jeremy would launch as a result of the course is Online Meeting Reviews.

In terms of structure, the course splits into 3 main components: planning the site (sessions 1-4), building the site (sessions 5-11), and getting traffic to it (sessions 12-15).

In the first few sessions Jeremy discusses the motivation behind his decision to build a multi-page review site, as opposed to the single landing page type site that he had concentrated on in years past. If you go and look at the final site, which is Online Meeting Reviews, you'll see that it consists of review pages for about 5 different online conferencing sites, articles on the subject of online conferencing services, and a separate page that lists, and compares, all the features of the sites that are being promoted.

Clearly, this kind of site which offers the visitor choices as to what they can explore in detail, involves a lot more planning than the BRIDGE page (single landing page) affiliate site. Once you have studied these sessions you'll understand what it is that your own site needs to offer visitors if you intend to use Google as a source of cheap pay per click traffic.

Once you understand your chosen niche and have planned out your site pages, it is time to build your site. In this part of the course you see how Jeremy uses Dreamweaver and Fireworks to build a simple version of his final site. Now, one of the real talents Jeremy has as an affiliate is the ability to build very good looking landing pages. But there's a big difference between build ONE landing page, and building an entire site to the same standard. Because of this, Jeremy's recommendation is to consider outsourcing the design of the site to someone who can create a professional looking final result.

The suggested course of action is to crowdsource this part of the project (which is to say, you run a contest and invite designers to submit completed design that accords to your specifications). In the course, you'll actually see how well this worked out when Jeremy ran a contest on 99designs.com. I personally found the design part of the Black Ink Project difficult because I have been building web sites by hand for years WITHOUT using applications like Dreamweaver and Fireworks. So the idea of having to learn these applications before being able to implement my site was a big deterrent to creating my own site. So I did something a little different here. I wrote some software to create Black Ink Project 2.0 review sites from scratch.

If you think this sounds a LOT harder than learning Dreamweaver and Fireworks, you'd be right. On the other hand, I happened to know how to pull it off because of all the years I have spent programming web applications, and I didn't have the time to learn those other web design programs. Finally, once you have your web site completed, it is time to figure out how you can get traffic to it. The nice thing about the review site model that has been adopted for the course, is that it is entirely SEO optimized. This means that the site isn't just a platform for PPC landing pages. It is a standalone site that people will find highly useful and will link to over the course of time. So it will develop a page rank.

But affiliates rarely depend on organic traffic as their sole means for attracting prospects. That's why the last part of the course concentrates on how to prepare pay per click campaigns, and optimize your landing pages for maximum conversions. This is another of the real strengths that has distinguished Jeremy Palmer as a power affiliate.

However, having great landing pages, no matter how good they may be, is not the only thing required for success at this stage. You must also track your results to find out what is working and what is not in your PPC campaigns. Once you know this, you can cut the parts of your campaigns that are losing you money, and concentrate on just those parts that are earning you healthy sales commissions. This is how you get to be a super affiliate. There is nothing accidental about it, and seeing how Jeremy does it will be eye-opening for those who have never given tracking any serious thought.

Well, that's my take on this course. If you've read the entire review you'll have a good feel for what you'll be getting when you get your hand on the Black Ink Project 2.0

One last observation: I recommend that you download all the video sessions so that you can play them whenever you feel the need. You can even run them in the background when you are doing the more tedious tasks associated with affiliate marketing. It is a great way to absorb the content in this course.

In the second video, one of Jeremy Palmer's most successful students talks briefly about how important Jeremy's advice has been to building an affiliate marketing business that generated $4,000,000 in the first 2 years. As Jeremy has said himself, Justin Bowen's success is truly exceptional. But it does illustrate how useful Jeremy's advice can be when it comes to affiliate marketing. And, of course, a great deal of that mentoring has ended up in his Black Ink Project.
